About BMSCR

In 1927 the Band of Music in Santa Cruz de Ribadulla was formed, on the initiative of Mr. Juan López, a native of Barcelona related to Santa Cruz as his parents were from there. He was orphaned at three years old, a military musician in the Melilla Band and Municipal of Santiago, investigating his origins he arrived in the lands of Ulla and began the foundations of the Band. In 1929 the band made its first performance in the official visit of a Prince to the Pazo de Ortigueira. Then it performs in the Patio festivals with other bands and makes its way in the band world.

With the beginning of the Civil War it was inactive but at its end continues under the baton of masters such as Mr. José Reboredo, Mr. Ricardo Fernández Carreira (Municipal Band of Santiago), Mr. Manuel Estévez (Choir of the Cathedral of Santiago), Mr. Camilo Rodríguez Alonso, Mr. Francisco Escobar (Military Band of the Navy of Ferrol), Mr. Fernández Barros (Municipal Band of Santiago) Don Mr. Bernardo García del Río (director for a quarter of a century), Mr. Arsenio Alonso (changed the instruments to achieve the new tuning), Mr. Delio Represas (birth of the School of Music, the Chamber Group and a recording was made), Mr. Jesús Amboaje (Ministry Band and Legion Band of Málaga, another recording is made), Mr. César Núñez (Municipal Band of Santander), Mr. Mario Tubío (Municipal Band of Santiago), Mr. Juan Lois Diéguez (achieved the 1st prize in section 1st of the National Band Contest of Leganés and the 1st prize in the National Band Contest Vila de La Sénia-Tarragona).

It performed concerts and performances throughout the Galician geography, Portugal and Spain (Madrid, Zamora, Barcelona, Valencia, ...), participates in band festivals and organizes its own Festival of Bands of Music of the Patio, in the Pazo de Ortigueira (Santa Cruz de Ribadulla). It records the works Pasodobleando (popular Galician and Spanish compositions) and Rico vacilón (danceable).

It has a music school from which the Youth Band emerged with about forty students and the Children created by twenty students, giving hope for the continuity of the group. From the quarry came professional musicians in bands such as the Municipal of A Coruña and Santiago, Collective Harmony and military bands such as the Civil Guard Band and the Music Unit of the Pyrenean Regional Command Headquarters.

Under the direction of Mr. José Rodríguez Ramos obtained the 1st prize in section 2nd in the VII Galician Popular Band Contest.

Currently it is formed by sixty teachers and at the head of the direction is Mr. Alejandro Cimadevila.
