In 1927 the Band of Music in Santa Cruz de Ribadulla was formed, on the initiative of Mr. Juan López, a native of Barcelona related to Santa Cruz as his parents were from there. He was orphaned at three years old, a military musician in the Melilla Band and Municipal of Santiago, investigating his origins he arrived in the lands of Ulla and began the foundations of the Band. In 1929 the band made its first performance in the official visit of a Prince to the Pazo de Ortigueira, then performing at the Patio festivals alongside other bands.

With the beginning of the Civil War it was inactive but resumed under the baton of masters such as Mr. José Reboredo, Mr. Ricardo Fernández Carreira (Municipal Band of Santiago), Mr. Manuel Estévez (Choir of the Cathedral of Santiago), Mr. Bernardo García del Río (director for a quarter of a century), Mr. Arsenio Alonso, Mr. Delio Represas (founding of the Music School and Chamber Group), Mr. Jesús Amboaje, Mr. César Núñez, Mr. Mario Tubío, and Mr. Juan Lois Diéguez (1st prize at the National Band Contest of Leganés and 1st prize at the National Contest Vila de La Sénia-Tarragona).

It has performed throughout Galicia, Portugal and Spain (Madrid, Zamora, Barcelona, Valencia...), participating in band festivals and organising its own Festival of Bands at the Pazo de Ortigueira. Recordings include Pasodobleando and Rico vacilón.

Its music school sustains a Youth Band and a Children's Band, ensuring the group's continuity. Professional musicians have emerged from its ranks into the Municipal Bands of A Coruña and Santiago, Colectivo Harmonía, and military ensembles including the Civil Guard Band.

Under the direction of Mr. José Rodríguez Ramos it won 1st prize in section 2 of the VII Galician Popular Band Contest. The band currently has sixty musicians under the direction of Mr. Alejandro Cimadevila.
